In the past few weeks alone, we've seen a resurgence of techno in Montreal, and to be completely honest.. we are absolutely thrilled at it's open-armed reception! We witnessed a legendary 4 hour back-to-back set from Berghain residents Marcel Dettmann & Ben Klock as they championed the hearts of 10,000 festival-goers at Igloofest. Followed by CLR kingpin Chris Liebing who banged out an uncompromising 6 hour techno set to a packed house at Stereo.

All this to say, times have changed and so have personal tastes in electronic dance music. Our beloved city was once known to be the mecca of techno in North America until about 10 years ago. Many adapted to current trends and explored the various different genres of electronic music, while other techno devoted enthusiasts have been waiting patiently for this moment to return. The moment where a love once lost, returns. So without further ado, we present to you the next techno episode..

PETER VAN HOESEN

When it comes down to combining the best of many musical worlds, Peter Van Hoesen can say he's been doing it for a while now. Deeply rooted in the Brussels electronic music scene as DJ and producer since 1993, he's considered by many as a man with multiple musical talents: from straight-up dancefloor jackin' techno to advanced abstract electronica. His music has been released on his own labels Time To Express and Foton as well as through Ostgut Ton, Exone, Komisch, Lan Muzic, Curle, Meakusma and Morse. He's active as a DJ, producer, sound designer and composer for contemporary dance and theatre. Peter currently lives in Berlin.

PHEEK

First taking interest as a sound enthusiast, Montreal's Jean-Patrice Remillard began exploring electronic music in earnest by the early 1990s, teaching himself how to produce and manipulate sounds with software and hardware. Nourished by his experiences and hoping to construct his own community of likeminded musicians, Pheek founded the Archipel netlabel in 2004. The immediate support and praise of media and clientele allowed Archipel to quickly achieve a key goal, releasing Pheek and Jesse Somfay's Galapagos Excursion Joint 1 as their first vinyl in early 2006. With his little family growing fast, Archipel has now launched the Kalimari sublabel, already at two releases. With Galapagos Excursion Joint becoming a favourite of Sven Vath (it appears on his next mix CD), and Kalimari's Mein Tesh included on Matthew Dear's Fabric 17 CD, Pheek's labels are now firmly ensconced in the international minimal techno and tech-house scene. His live performances and recordings now in widespread demand, Pheek continues to pride himself on building, creating and developing… Art first.
